Music
Punta is the best known traditional music in Honduras. It is the most common Garifuna music in Central America. Punta is known for its pattern in drumming and singing, as well as its thrilling rhythm. Hondurans enjoy the traditional instruments that make up Punta. Some instruments that make it up include drums, maracas, and claves. This energetic sound is heard at birthday celebrations, cook outs, or holidays, as well as an everyday basis. For Hondurans Punta is a way of expressing oneself. This traditional music has traveled to many parts of Central America; however, it is mostly known in Honduras.
People enjoy dancing to the complex beats of the drums. It is such an exciting dance that people from all ages can enjoy. As a Honduran I have been raised to dance this traditional music. It may be difficult to get used to because of its unique sounds, but it is not too complicated to dance. Dancing Punta involves moving the hips left to right in a circular motion. As the hips move the toes get on their points and aid the movements. There are really fast paced songs that causes the complexity of the dance; nonetheless, it is still enjoyable to move to. |

Other types of Music:
There are other types of music that Hondurans enjoy to listen to. Because Honduras is a Latin American Country there is a variety of latin music genres that they appreciate. These Latin genres include Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Cumbia and Reggaeton. Learning about these different music genres is very interesting because they each have their particular sounds and rhythm. Each latin music genre has its own way of dancing as well. I have learned how to dance all these different sounds and appreacite each one of them.
